On Saturday, Oct. 26., before the Sachem East vs. Sachem North football game, Sachem honored longtime groundsman, Mike DeFontes. A proud 1986 graduate of Sachem High School, Mike began working in Sachem in 1988 as a custodian and transitioned to groundsman in 1992. In 2010, he stepped into the role of head groundsman and continued dedicating himself to maintaining our fields with unparalleled commitment until his retirement this past June.

The Sachem athletics community expresses its deepest gratitude for Mike’s remarkable 36 years of service to our students, staff, and most importantly, the athletes who have benefited from his hard work and dedication.
