Sachem “Teens as Teachers” Kick Off ‘Too Good For Drugs’ Program at Seneca and Sagamore

Students from Sachem High School East’s Teens as Teachers program visited Seneca and Sagamore Middle Schools this week to deliver the first of four lessons from the “Too Good For Drugs” curriculum.
The program empowers high school students to take on mentorship roles, leading interactive health and wellness lessons that promote positive decision-making, goal-setting, and drug prevention among middle school students.
At Seneca, the visiting students also enjoyed some extra time outdoors, joining their younger peers during recess, a highlight that helped build genuine connections beyond the classroom.
“Our students worked so hard to prepare to teach, and it truly paid off,” said Siobhan Cully, a Health Education teacher at Sachem East who helps coordinate the initiative. “They were confident, engaging, and really made an impact.”
The Teens as Teachers initiative will continue throughout the school year, with three additional sessions planned to reinforce lessons in responsibility, resilience, and healthy choices across the Sachem community.
