Nokomis Elementary Teacher Jennifer De Carlo Honored by New York Islanders

Nokomis Elementary School teacher Jennifer De Carlo has been named the New York Islanders Teacher of the Month for January 2026, a prestigious recognition celebrating educators who make a meaningful impact in their classrooms and communities.
De Carlo was selected for her dedication to student growth, her collaborative spirit, and her ability to create a classroom environment where perseverance, confidence, and self-belief are at the center of learning. Known among colleagues for her passion and positivity, she consistently inspires students to embrace challenges and celebrate progress, no matter how many attempts it takes.
“I absolutely love my students and colleagues at Nokomis, especially my amazing co-teacher, Robyn, whom I have been lucky enough to teach alongside for more than half of my career,” De Carlo said. “I am inspired by how hard my students work each day. Being able to watch my class grow into confident young people who are ready for their next step in life is very motivating.”
She added that helping children believe in themselves is what fuels her work every day: “Watching them succeed—even if it takes many attempts—is the greatest part of my job.”
The New York Islanders’ Teacher of the Month program highlights educators across the region who go above and beyond to support students academically and personally. De Carlo’s recognition reflects the strong culture of learning, teamwork, and care that defines Nokomis.
