On Friday, March 28, the kindergarten students at Nokomis proudly hosted their first ABC Parade and Kindergarten Showcase. This exciting event was a celebration of the students’ hard work in learning the letters of the alphabet and their sounds.

Parents, along with Nokomis students and teachers, were invited to cheer on the young learners as they paraded through the school, proudly displaying their handcrafted ABC vests. Each kindergartner highlighted a different letter, making the parade a colorful and engaging display of their newfound knowledge.

Following the parade, parents were welcomed into the kindergarten classrooms for a special showcase. Teachers provided a brief overview of the skills the children had acquired and shared tips on how families could support learning at home. Students then led their grownups through three interactive workstations, demonstrating their progress in language arts and math.

This event aimed to strengthen the home-school connection while giving parents a glimpse into their child’s daily learning experiences.

Nokomis Elementary School recently welcomed Samantha Augeri from News 12 for an exciting and educational visit with all fourth grade classes. The visit provided students with an engaging lesson on meteorology, focusing on key weather concepts such as instrumentation, pressure and wind movement.

During the presentation, students learned about the tools meteorologists use to measure and predict the weather. Augeri explained how various instruments, such as barometers and anemometers, help track changes in atmospheric pressure and wind speed.

One of the main topics discussed was air pressure and its role in weather patterns. Students explored how high-pressure systems move toward areas of lower pressure, influencing wind patterns and storm formations.

The visit was an enriching experience for the students, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm for science and meteorology. Nokomis Elementary extends its gratitude to Samantha Augeri for her time and for inspiring young minds with her knowledge and passion for weather science.
