Sachem saluted first responders during several appreciation events throughout May. Many of the elementary schools held breakfasts and parades, inviting students’ family members who work in law enforcement, emergency and fire services, and healthcare fields. Students lined the hallways and bus loops as the community heroes walked through to claps and cheers. The celebrations honored those who dedicate their lives to serve and protect others.

Students at Nokomis Elementary School are taking part in a monthly program called SEL Mindful Mornings. During these sessions, students in grades K-5 are invited to participate in yoga, mindfulness, deep breathing exercises and meditation. Teachers, Ms. Little and Ms. Starr, alongside elementary school counselor Ms. Healy, brought this program to Nokomis in hopes of starting students' day off on the right foot. The goal is for students to bring these practices into the classroom and beyond.
