Sachem Musicians Selected for Prestigious 2025 NYSSMA All-State Conference

Posted Date: 12/05/25 (12:49 PM)

Five exceptional student-musicians from the Sachem Central School District have been selected by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) to participate in the prestigious 2025 All-State Music Conference.

An additional five students were named alternates. This annual festival represents one of the highest honors a high school musician can achieve.

All-State Selections

• Cora Gillespie, HS North – Symphony Orchestra, Violin 1
• Roger Ortiz-Sanchez, HS North – Mixed Choir, Tenor 1
• Alianna Polo, HS East – Treble Chorus, Soprano 2
• Isabella Schwaner, HS East – Mixed Chorus, Soprano 2
• Matthew Umbenhower, HS North – Symphony Orchestra, Viola; Mixed Choir, Bass 1

Alternates

• George Haines, HS North – Percussion
• Isabella Meichner, HS North – Cello
• Amanda Morda, HS North – Trumpet
• Tristan Prin, HS East – Tenor 1
• Abby Tannacore, HS North – Cello

Each year, more than 6,000 students statewide audition for All-State Honors by preparing an accompanied Level VI NYSSMA solo, 13 scales, and a sight-reading component evaluated by professional adjudicators. Fewer than 700 students ultimately earn a place in the ensembles. Participants typically score 98 or higher—many earning perfect scores—underscoring just how remarkable this achievement is. These ten Sachem students rank among the very best young musicians in New York State.

The 2025 All-State Winter Conference will be held December 4–7 in Rochester. While there, students will rehearse and perform under the direction of nationally recognized conductors, with all concerts presented at the historic Eastman Theatre.

Congratulations to these outstanding musicians on this incredible accomplishment!
