Peer Education Program Bridges Generations at Brightview Senior Living Prom Celebration

Students from Sachem’s Peer Education Program and You Matter University recently spent a memorable day at Brightview Senior Living, hosting a special prom-themed event that created meaningful connections across generations.
The event, organized by Sachem teacher Jonathan Chiaramonte, brought together students and residents for an afternoon filled with dancing, photographs, laughter and heartfelt conversations. Residents and students shared stories, memories and experiences, creating an atmosphere that celebrated compassion, understanding and human connection.
For many residents, the event sparked cherished memories from their own youth, while students gained valuable perspective through personal interactions that transcended age differences. The prom celebration served as more than just an event. It became a powerful reminder of the importance of empathy, kindness and community engagement.
Students helped residents dance, posed for prom-style photos and spent time simply talking and listening, creating moments that left a lasting impact on everyone involved.
The experience highlighted the ongoing mission of Sachem’s Peer Education Program, which continues to break barriers and teach students the value of compassion, emotional awareness and service to others. Through initiatives like this, students learn life lessons that extend far beyond the classroom while making a genuine difference in others' lives.
Organizers described the day as emotional, uplifting and unforgettable, with smiles shared throughout the building from beginning to end.
