Students Explore Aviation and Engineering During Visit to East/West Industries

Sachem East students in Mrs. McDermott and Mrs. Cannetti’s classes recently took part in an exciting and unforgettable field trip to East/West Industries, where they received a firsthand look at the world of aviation, engineering, and manufacturing.
One of the highlights of the trip was the opportunity to climb inside an old Chinook helicopter and explore the massive aircraft up close. Students were able to see what life inside the aircraft was like while learning about its important role in military and aviation history.
During the visit, students also toured the company’s manufacturing floor, where they observed advanced machinery, innovative technology, and skilled employees working together to create aerospace and safety equipment. The experience provided students with a behind-the-scenes look at how products are designed, engineered, and assembled in a professional manufacturing environment.
Throughout the tour, students learned how teamwork, problem-solving, and engineering play major roles in the aerospace industry. The hands-on experience gave students an engaging introduction to potential careers in aviation, manufacturing, and technology while helping connect classroom learning to real-world applications.
The trip was both educational and inspiring, leaving students with lasting memories and a greater appreciation for the exciting opportunities available in STEM-related fields.
