Four Sachem Seniors Honored at 26th Annual Butch Dellecave Awards

Four outstanding Sachem seniors were recently recognized among Suffolk County's top student-athletes at the 26th Annual Butch Dellecave Awards, held at Villa Lombardi's in Holbrook.
Representing Sachem North were seniors Alexandra Chmela and John Giraulo, while Isabella Sharp-Senior and Jack Martines were honored as Sachem East's nominees.
Named in memory of the late Gaetano "Butch" Dellecave, a legendary educator, coach and official, the prestigious award recognizes graduating seniors who exemplify excellence in athletics, academics and community service. The program is a collaborative effort between the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Inc., the Butch Dellecave Foundation and Newsday, and is built upon a 26-year partnership with Suffolk County school districts.
Each high school in Suffolk County is invited to nominate one male and one female senior who demonstrate a rare combination of athletic achievement, academic success and meaningful civic involvement. The annual awards celebration highlights the remarkable accomplishments of student-athletes who serve as role models both on and off the field.
"The Dellecave Awards shine a spotlight on exceptional graduating seniors from across Suffolk County," said Adrian Fassett, President and CEO of the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk. "These nominees have distinguished themselves through athletic excellence, academic commitment and service to others. We are proud to help celebrate their achievements and the promise they hold as future leaders in our communities."
The recognition underscores the dedication and character displayed by Chmela, Giraulo, Sharp-Senior and Martines throughout their high school careers. Their accomplishments reflect Sachem's commitment to developing well-rounded students who excel in the classroom, in competition and in service to their communities.
The Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Inc., Suffolk County's federally designated Community Action Agency since 1967, works to promote self-sufficiency and strengthen communities by coordinating public and private resources to assist families and children.
