Sachem ENL Students Honored with Cords for Academic Excellence and English Proficiency
The English as a New Language (ENL) Departments at Sachem High School East and Sachem High School North recently celebrated the accomplishments of graduating seniors during their annual ENL Honors Cord ceremonies.
The ceremonies recognized students who achieved English language proficiency during their high school years while also maintaining a minimum 75% academic average. Each student was presented with an ENL Honors Cord to wear at commencement, symbolizing their perseverance, academic achievement and dedication to mastering the English language.
Reaching English proficiency while succeeding in rigorous high school coursework is a significant milestone that reflects years of hard work, resilience and determination. The ceremonies also celebrated the support provided by families, teachers and staff members who helped students achieve success throughout their educational journey.
The Sachem Central School District's ENL program provides specialized instruction and support to multilingual learners, helping students develop the language skills needed to thrive academically while becoming confident members of the school community.
