WSHR 91.9 FM is the award-winning, student-operated radio station of the Sachem Central School District, serving the Long Island community with professional-quality broadcasting, local news, sports, music, podcasts, and original programming. More than a school radio station, WSHR is a dynamic, real-world learning laboratory where students develop practical skills in journalism, broadcasting, audio and video production, storytelling, and digital media.

Through live coverage of school events, community programming, athletic broadcasts, public affairs, and public service initiatives, WSHR provides students with authentic experiences while serving as a trusted voice for the Sachem community. Guided by experienced media professionals and dedicated educators, students learn the principles of ethical journalism, effective communication, and multimedia storytelling while producing content that informs, inspires, and connects audiences throughout Long Island.

The 2026 school year marked a historic milestone in the station's history. The Press Club of Long Island recognized WSHR as both the No. 1 High School Radio Station and the No. 1 High School Television Station on Long Island, affirming the excellence of its student-produced journalism and multimedia programming.

WSHR also received the 2026 Robert W. Greene Public Service Award, the highest honor presented by the Press Club of Long Island. The prestigious award recognizes outstanding service to the community through journalism and reflects the station's unwavering commitment to meaningful, impactful reporting produced by Sachem students and staff.

The station's culture of excellence extends well beyond team recognition. Sachem alumna Alyssa Tappin earned Long Island High School Reporter of the Year honors and was named Suffolk County High School Reporter of the Year, highlighting WSHR's success in preparing the next generation of journalists and communicators.

Today, WSHR stands as one of New York's premier scholastic media programs, combining award-winning journalism with hands-on education to prepare students for success in college, careers, and civic life. The station proudly reflects Sachem's commitment to innovation, excellence, and community engagement while giving students an authentic platform to discover their voices and make a meaningful impact.
