Sachem Central School District teachers Philip Barbera and Jon Weston hand-delivered boxes filled with heartfelt letters from the staff and community, urging politicians to address appropriate funding concerns for education. The letters, written by concerned parents, our educators and residents, called for appropriate funding for Universal Pre-K (UPK), support for state mandates, improvements in special education and relief from Tax Anticipation Note (TAN) borrowing.
The teachers personally delivered the letters to elected officials, including Assemblyman Doug Smith, State Sen. Dean Murray, Legislator Joe DeStefano and Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay. The letter writing campaign aimed to to highlight the community’s growing concerns about financial shortfalls affecting the district and the urgent need for legislative action.
The Sachem community continues to rally behind its educators and students, hoping that these letters will serve as a catalyst for meaningful change in state and local funding policies. Local officials acknowledged the delivery and have pledged to review the concerns presented.
