Students from Sachem North’s Advanced Crafts class, AP Art classes and National Art Honor Society recently embarked on an inspiring field trip to collaborate with the local organization UpSculpt. Known for its innovative upcycled sculptures crafted from marine debris found on Long Island, UpSculpt provided an enriching experience for the students, fostering creativity and environmental awareness.
Under the guidance of artist and founder Cindy Pease Roe and Director of Education Bri Sander, the students were introduced to advanced crafting techniques and creative processes used by practicing artists. The immersive workshop allowed them to explore exquisite materials and utilize professional tools, inspiring them to create their own UpSculpt-inspired artworks.
The day was not just about crafting, but about using their passion for the ocean and the environment to repurpose trash into beautiful art. Students had a fantastic time, combining their artistic talents with a sense of environmental responsibility to create truly unique pieces.
This unforgettable experience highlighted the power of art to inspire change, encouraging students to think creatively while making a positive impact on the world around them.
