Sachem Students Rake in Teeny Award Nominations

Sachem theater students were nominated for several Teeny Awards this year, which recognize excellence in high school theater. The Teeny Awards are based on the Tony Awards, which acknowledge the best Broadway shows from the season.

High School East students were nominated for the Teeny Awards hosted by the Islip Arts Council. The council strives to encourage students to continue their education and pursue careers in performing arts and theater. Congratulations to the following High School East students:

• Robert De Persio, III as Baby John, “West Side Story”
• Patrick Cahill, Student Director, “A Chorus Line”
• Keira Muino, Scenic Designer, “West Side Story”
• Mason Vaughn, Pit Musician, “West Side Story”
• Jenny Sejarto, Lighting, “A Chorus Line,” “West Side Story”
• Lucie Johnson, Sound, Special Effects, “A Chorus Line,” “West Side Story”
• Jason Pressman, Stage Manager, “A Chorus Line,” “West Side Story”
• Cadence DePersio, Choreographer, “A Chorus Line”
• Keira Muino, Scenic Design, “West Side Story”
• Lilyana Pittaro, Stage Manager, Choreographer

High School North students were nominated for the Teeny Awards sponsored by the East End Arts Council. Through the Teeny Awards program, East End Arts strives to raise the bar on theater education by encouraging increased attendance and community pride at school productions, much like school sports programs. Congratulations to the following High School North students:

• Lead Performer in a Play: Nick Aspris (Peter Pan)
• Lead Performer in a Play: Brook Tate (Wendy)
• Outstanding Performer in a Play: Keira Mc Garry (Slightly Lost Boy)
• Lead Performer in a Musical, Drama: Mia Ponticelli (Anya)
• Lead Performer in a Musical, Drama: Nick Aspris (Dmitry)
• Supporting Performer in a Musical, Drama: Jeremy Cruz (Vlad)
• Supporting Performer in a Musical, Drama: Brook Tate (Lily)
• Choreography: Mia Ponticelli for Learn to do it and Countess and the Common Man
• Outstanding Performer in a Musical: Kaitlyn Reed (Featured Dancer/ Ballerina)

Students will attend the respective award ceremonies in June.
