This February, Sachem East High School hosted its second annual Freshmen February, a month-long celebration created by freshmen for freshmen. The event was made possible thanks to the dedication of the Class Officers: Nathan Check, Howard Dickson, Abigail Erikson, Jordan Glad and Braden Grill.
Freshmen February featured weekly themed Fridays, where students dressed up to match different themes and competed for prizes. Each week, the most spirited freshman won a gift card to the Sachem East School Store:
* Feb. 7: Teacher-Student Swap Friday – Freshmen dressed like their favorite teachers, while teachers dressed like students.
* Feb. 14: Valentine Spirit Friday – Students wore red, pink, purple and white in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
* Feb. 28: Music Friday – Freshmen showed their love for music by dressing to represent their favorite genres or artists.
In addition to the themed Fridays, there was a trivia challenge each week, with the winner receiving a gift card to the school store.
On Feb. 12 and Feb. 13, the freshmen hosted a Valentine’s Day Pop-Up Shop for all students. The shop featured Valentine’s Day cards, friendship bracelets, lollipops and Hershey bars. There was also a Hershey Kiss Guessing Jar, where the winner took home all the chocolates inside, and a selfie photo station with Valentine’s Day props for a fun photo opportunity.
To wrap up the month, all freshmen received a free hot chocolate voucher for the Eastside Cafe, perfect for warming up during the chilly winter days.
